New Century is a planned-unit residential development located in Maplewood, Minnesota, and welcomed its first residents at the turn of the millennium. A unique large development located within the 494 Beltway, New Century overcame the challenge of combining 14 different original property owners with varying property sizes to compile the 57 acre site. Today it is an example how planned communities that set aside green space and maintain architectural standards can help the entire area thrive.

Amenities
New Century has a wide variety of amenities throughout the entire neighborhood.

Architectural Standards
One objective Robert Engstrom Companies had for New Century was an exemplary streetscape throughout the entire development. Wide sidewalks, boulevard trees, common space landscaping, a community park and architectural control of housing details all lend to the appeal of living in New Century. To maintain a common design theme, every home constructed had to go through an architectural control approval process as provided by the developer.

Robert Engstrom Companies paid special attention to the architectural integrity of all proposed plans, moderating design authenticity on points such as garage placement and how it relates to the home. Three car garages dominating the fronts of homes were not allowed. Preferred home styles for New Century were Craftsman, Prairie, Bungalow, Stylized Rural, Traditional and Shingle. Adhering to an architectural vision without limiting the design possibilities of individual home owners has helped New Century grow organically, yet feel consistent throughout.

Community Association
New Century has a Master Community Association encompassing the entire community. The single family lawn and snow maintenance home sites and townhomes are sub associations of the Master Community Association with a different fee schedule. The two main functions of the Community Association will be the maintenance of the common areas and continued architectural control after the last homesite has been sold.
